Alert: Counterfeit £50 Notes and Advice About How To Spot Them

    Dear Watch Member,
We have been receiving a number of reports over recent days where counterfeit £50 notes have been tendered.  Reports have been received from various locations across Hertfordshire, mostly in pubs.
In addition to being alert to strange or suspicious behaviour by customers tendering £50 notes, counter staff may also benefit from advice from The Bank Of England.  The Bank provides a range of free education and training materials about Bank of England banknotes to help cash users, (retailers, commercial bank staff and members of the public), check that their banknotes are genuine.
The Bank Of England’s 'Take a Closer Look' Booklet gives full details of the security features on all banknotes, together with a range of other useful advice and information about Bank of England banknotes.  Pages 14-15 provide information about the £50 note.
For the relevant page on the Bank Of England website, which contains links to online training and short videos, visit: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/Pages/educational.aspx

Working with the business community, Three Rivers District Council’s recent Business Forum has been well received among businesses in the area.

The meeting, which took place on 22 July, engaged the audience with the agenda including insight on apprenticeships, tourism and infrastructure within Hertfordshire and Three Rivers, as well as advice for businesses and looking into the future of the area and county.

The inaugural Forum saw a select number of larger businesses and supporting organisations that operate within the District come together to discuss the issues facing businesses now and in the foreseeable future. Officers of the Council and party leaders from all three political parties represented on the Council took part. Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst, Lead Member for Economic Development, Sustainability and Transport, who chaired the meeting said “The meeting was a success and very encouraging. The Forum has got the ball rolling for future meetings that will involve local businesses all over the district.”

The Three Rivers Business Forum will help develop the Economic Development Strategy for the area and establish some key priorities for the future.

Cllr Stephen Giles-Medhurst said: "The Business Forum has laid the foundations for a stronger business community within Three Rivers, where communication between the Council and local enterprises can further develop, and will help build on our strategy to encourage growth and innovation”.

Future meetings are to be scheduled for 3 times a year with defined actions to be agreed. For more information, please visit www.threerivers.gov.uk

The Rickmansworth Chamber of Commerce Committee has agreed unanimously to affiliate to Hertfordshire Chamber.  The affiliation agreement, the amendment to the governance of the Chamber and its structure will be put to the membership early in the next session at the AGM and a vote taken.  The affiliation will not alter your membership to Rickmansworth Chamber other than that your membership would be automatically transferred to Three Rivers Chamber of Trade & Commerce.  You will still be able to attend neighbouring Chamber events at their member rates, AND you will immediately be entitled to some of the benefits that Hertfordshire Chamber are offering!

    More details to follow.
